On Wednesday, September 16, Broadfield announced the opening of its Paris office, marking the firm’s entry into continental Europe.
Coinciding with the launch, Managing Partner in the UK office, John Hutchinson spoke with Law360. He said that as law firms increasingly weigh taking on outside investment, Broadfield has capitalized on an opportunity to achieve similar growth benefits, while retaining equity, by outsourcing technology, recruitment, and other support functions to Alvarez & Marsal Inc. affiliate SHP Legal Services. The arrangement enables SHP to integrate Alvarez & Marsal’s global advisory capabilities into the support it provides to the firm.
"We like the idea of having a service provider that sits alongside us and works very closely with us, but without losing the independence that we believe law firms really benefit from."

Broadfield launched in 2024 with the ambition of building an international law firm built for the modern era. The firm brings together talent and cutting-edge technology to support complex cross-border transactions, while offering what Hutchinson calls “commercially sensible” prices.
"It's got to be growth that's aligned with the Broadfield proposition. We will be attracted to teams and firms that work in areas that are consistent with what we do: Be that private equity, be it corporate, be it funds, infrastructure — all those areas that fit with the Broadfield model."
